The Royal Ranch is a historical ranch in beautiful Bailey, Colorado. The original Royal Ranch was started by Charles Royal in the 1930's. When he was "busted" for moon shining, he was forced out of the original location, moving to our current locale, just a couple of miles down the road. Our ranch was built in 1955 with over 400 acres of mountainous terrain. As the years went by, Mr. Royal sold off many of his acres, so we now are the proud caretakers/owners of the ranch houses and a small acreage.

It is very important to us (Tom and Judy) to consider ourselves "caretakers" of this ranch and it's spectacular surroundings. Judy is a second generation Native and Tom has been here since 1972. We are mountain kids through and through and enjoy sharing our passion for this one-of-a-kind area. One can see fields of wildflowers, wildlife that is unparalleled and mountains that reach to the sky! In the fall, our aspen groves become a painter's pallet of red, orange and yellow. In the winter, it is an absolute wonderland, with towering pine forests covered in frost, and snowshoeing that is out of this world. Spring and Summer tend to just slide into one another, bringing us warm sunny days, wildflowers of every hue and Judy's favorite, Hummingbirds!
The adventure started for us on our 10th wedding anniversary. Tom and I climbed our favorite mountain, Mt. Rosalie, elev 13,875. Not quite a fourteener, but for us it was a monumental climb. Not only did we accomplish our goal, but it was the birth of all of our current businesses. We never wanted to climb that mountain again carrying our own stuff-Ha! We decided that we would fulfill my lifelong dream and acquire a couple of llamas for packing trips. That was eight years ago and my passion for rescuing animals brought us to a current herd size of 10 male llamas! Thank goodness that only a few have come with really sad stories, mostly people just getting in over their heads. The relationship between us and our llamas is a special one, they have our love and respect and over time that has equaled a very intelligent and willing llama pack string.
The Royal Ranch provides llama trekking through Royal Llama Adventures, one-of-a-kind accomodations at our nest in the woods, The Royal Roost and of course our fantastic eco-friendly llama manure tea bags, Naked~Nure. We would love for you to follow day to day life at my blog, www.royalranchgreenfromthebottomup.blogspot.com which also has Llama Llesson '09 on it!
